Kotylion

Dances

Preparatory classes are run by: Grupa Kotylion in Warsaw; Szkoła Tańca Jane Austen in Kraków.

Processional dances

For processional dances it is enough to know the basic step. During the dance, everyone repeats after the first couple to the extent of their imagination and ability.

Polonaise

The dance has no predetermined figures — all couples repeat the figures after the leading couple.

Improvised dances

For improvised dances we provide options on how you can dance. This is not an instruction, but rather a suggestion of an idea. To the music of the waltz you can dance the Viennese waltz, the two-step waltz or the Boston waltz — and all these varieties may be performed by different couples to the same tune. The choice is up to you. It is the same with music in even time: you may choose the one-step, foxtrot or maxixe.

The music is slower than the Viennese waltz but faster than the slow English waltz. You may dance any waltz, including cross-step waltz.

Fixed-pattern dances

For fixed-pattern dances it is necessary to know the dance pattern. The dance caller will prompt the order of the figures at the ball, but there will be no teaching of dances at the ball, so these dances should be learnt in advance.
